CLASSIC RETREATS was launched in 1993 and acquired by Suzanne Bayly-Coupe in 1999. Since its inception, Classic Retreats has been responsible for the international positioning and branding of many of Africa’s leading hotels and lodges and is recognised as a market leader in the travel industry. In 2004 the company expanded to encompass Classic Representation to provide international sales and marketing solutions for independent hotels, lodges and estates as well as the properties featured within the Classic Retreats portfolio.

Over the recent years, it has become clear that travellers are looking for experiences that offer true value for money without compromising on quality. As frequent travellers we often stumble upon that ‘little gem’ accommodation experience epitomising the essence of a Classic Retreats property.

Being in the travel industry for many years we are frequently asked for recommendations or suggestions on these special places. With this in mind we decided to reposition Classic Retreats as a portfolio of products providing passion,  personality as well as outstanding value. In essence this is our personal recommendation of such gems - enjoy!

SSuzanne Bayly-Coupe has been involved with the marketing of luxury hotels and safari lodges since 1996. She has an undergraduate degree in International Politics & Economics and a postgraduate degree in Marketing from the University of Cape Town. Her strengths are in generating new business and identifying international opportunities for luxury brands and unique experience providers. Between regular trips to Southern and East Africa, Suzanne heads up the Edinburgh office and is responsible for the overall management of Classic Retreats and the sister company Classic Representation.

JoJoanne Haw was born and raised in Cape Town and joined Classic Representation in 2007 after completing an undergraduate degree in Biology, Earth and Environmental Science and a postgraduate degree in Marketing (University of Cape Town). Joanne is based in the Edinburgh office and is the dedicated Classic Retreats account manager providing regular contact to the members as well as managing the marketing of the portfolio.
